FB Argue Recreation Area News

On Saturday August 27, 2011 we will have an end of summer celebration with a cookout, movie, games and much more! More Info»

FB Argue Recreation Area News

The F.B. Argue Recreation Area will be closing for the season on August 27, 2011. There will be a cook out and outdoor movie on that day. The movie is Gnomeo and Julliet. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and chips will be available for free.  Donations of a non perishable food item for the food pantry will be accepted. There will be cotton candy and pop corn available during the movie. You are asked to bring your own drink or buy what is left from the concession stand. Swimming will be available from 12- 6 on that day, with the cookout starting around 5:00.

Swimming lessons for the summer were a great success with 80 children taking part. Mike Adams and Minni Plante did the instructing. If you did not participate in swimming lessons this summer, please consider it for next summer. We ran three 2 week sessions with the middle session being held in the evening.

Attendance has been on the decline for what ever reason. If you have suggestions for additional activities for next summer, please contact the Town of Pittsfield Recreation Committee. Plans are in the works for a rededication of the area at the beginning of next summer for the 50th anniversary.

Life Guards this summer were Mike Adams, Rebekah Adams, and Maxwell Tuttle. Gate Keepers were Sarah Adams, Jenna Ward, and Cassidy Kearns. They all did a great job and contributed to a successful season. We would like to thank all our patrons, Kydstop, Epsom Better Buddies, and the Highway Department for their continued support. Hopefully this fall we will get the necessary dredging done so that we can use the diving board again next summer.

Seasonal Hours: The area is open from 12:00 to 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. It is open from 12:00 to 7:00 on Tuesday and Thursday and 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday. Adults- don’t forget Senior Swim Time from  11:00 to 12:00 on Monday and Thursday.

About the Dr. Forest B Argue Memorial Pool....

This three acre park located within walking distance of many homes in Pittsfield serves as the Town Pool.  If features two pavilions suitable for group picnics, arts and crafts, picnics a recently refurbished snack bar/bathroom building.  The pool is managed by the Pittsfield Park and Recreation Commission and is open seven days a week during the summer months.  A fishing derby, ice skating and other similar events are scheduled during the year.

The park was donated to the town by the Pittsfield Rotary in 1961 in memory of Dr. Forest B. Argue, MD.  This pond was previously known as Clarks Pond being used as a mill pond.  The pond was dredged, a new dam built, fencing erected about the perimeter of the pond area and a new bath house was erected.
