Artist in residence, Erin Sweeney worked with the third grade students the week of February 11-15 to create hand-made pop-up accordion books based on the arctic animals they are studying in their classrooms.
On Thursday, December 6, Duncan McDougall from the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) presented a workshop on reading to children, while the PES PTO sponsored a Family Crafts event, which kept kids engaged having fun. The combined events drew more than 30 PES families. Parents were able to select two books for each of their children to give as gifts this holiday season.
On Thursday, November 8, all PES students participated in a Veterans Day assembly in the Gym. Retired Marine Coronal, the Honorable Gerald J. Boyle, presented an official Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, which Mr. Kilmister signed on behalf of our school community.
As part of our Year of the Book year-long celebration, children’s author and illustrator Marty Kelley met with the students at PES.
Every Friday morning between 8:00 and 8:30, PES students in grades 4-6, visit their book buddies in grades 1-3.
In May, Artist in Residence Emile Birch worked with PES third graders to design and install three concrete benches in the front loop.
