Emergency Shelter Volunteers Needed

Have you often wondered what you can do to help your town in the event of an emergency? If you are a Pittsfield resident, you can help your town by becoming a volunteer for the Emergency Management Shelter Organization. The Pittsfield Emergency Management Team is looking for volunteers to work the shelter in case of an emergency that results in the shelter being opened up. You do not need any special experience to volunteer as we will be providing training; however, we are looking for those with medical background (nurses, medical technicians, retired doctors/. Dentists and so forth); mass feeding experience; and child care. Basically, to volunteer, there are two steps to take:
1) Contact the Emergency Management Shelter Director, Merrill Vaughan at 603-344-0264 with any questions you might have
2) Fill out a Volunteer Application and drop it off at the Town Hall.
Currently, this is open to only Pittsfield residents only who are at least 18 years of age and have computer and cell phone access.

Merrill Vaughan, Director,
Pittsfield Emergency Management Shelter Director up!

Mission Statement

To be a resource to the Community in the event of any substantial natural or manmade emergency. It is the role of Emergency Management to be a liaison with State and Federal resources which may be needed at the local level. It is Emergency Management’s goal to prepare a plan that will allow Pittsfield to be self-sustaining in any widespread disaster for at least 72 hours, judiciously using its current resources and to supplement as necessary, and to support recovery measures. Additionally, we will organize and fulfill obligations to remain eligible for any reimbursement in the event of a disaster declaration.
